Around The Campfire
What you carry in your deer hunting backpack says a great deal about the kind of deer hunter you are.
Since I couldn't remember exactly what was in mine, I trudged down to my basement to find out.
I emptied the contents out onto the workshop counter and here is what was still in there from last fall's deer season:
Binoculars
Rangefinder
Grunt Call
Doe Bleat Call
Rattling Bag
Knife
Compass
Pocket-sized notebook and pen
Key ring with the keys to my hunting shack
Old wallet to carry my pistol permits and hunting licenses
Extra pair of gloves
Wildlife doe scent wafers
Tinks #69 Doe-In-Rut Buck Lure
Drag line with scent wick
Hunting watch
Garmin eTrex GPS
Binocular shoulder strap
Kleenex
hhmmmm....seems like a lot of STUFF!
Of course, during deer season when I leave for the day, I actually have even more important stuff:
Thermos of coffee
2 Cokes in the 8 oz. plastic bottles
2 Sandwiches
Bag of Snacks - now this is really the most important thing in the entire backpack as any hunter will tell you.
Choosing the correct assortment of snacks is a true art! I like Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Hershey's Miniatures, Cheetos, Pringles, and Quaker Breakfast Bars.
Since I hunt in a hunting shack and I am there from about 6:45 AM to 5:30 PM, the correct snack assortment is really critical. The hunting shack gives me the added bonus of not having to worry about how much noise a candy wrapper makes when you tear it open. It is amazing how loud a single Pringle crunch can sound, even inside the shack.
So, let me know what important junk..er..stuff you carry in your deer hunting backpack.
See you next time "Around The Campfire".
